Chicago, IL:The winners of Insurance Nexus’ Insurance Innovation Awards 2018 have been announced following the awards ceremony at the Connected Insurance USA Summit.
The awards were held to celebrate the organizations, individuals and technology partners currently driving innovation in the North American insurance space, against the backdrop of huge technological disruption.
There were three categories of award: ‘Innovation Carrier of the Year’ (recognizing the insurance carrier that has made the biggest advances in insurance innovation in 2018), ‘Innovation Leader of the Year’ (the individual who led an exceptionally innovative project or transformation in 2018, from any type of organization) and ‘Innovation Vendor of the Year’ (the solution-provider that has demonstrated exceptional innovation over the past year).
“Insurance Nexus hosted the Insurance Innovation Awards to celebrate innovation, exemplary performance and leadership across the American Insurance Industry,” said Jasmine Kees, Global Project Director at Insurance Nexus. “These awards bring together the industry’s leading minds and aim to shine a spotlight on the achievements of those making the biggest, most transformative impacts.”
An open nomination process saw a shortlist created for each category. A judging panel and a people’s vote each then selected a winner, leading to two winners within each category: ‘Judges’ Choice’ and ‘People’s Choice’. The judging panel comprised Stephen Applebaum (Managing Partner, Insurance Solutions Group), Celia Clinciu (Director, InsurTechNews), Matteo Carbone (Founder and Director, IoT Insurance Observatory) and Insurance Nexus’ Head of Insurance, Emma Sheard.
The winners of each award are as follows:
Innovation Carrier of the Year
People’s Choice Innovation Carrier of the Year
American Modern Insurance
Innovation Vendor of the Year
People’s Choice Innovation Vendor of the Year
Innovation Leader of the Year
Michelle Rustler (American Family)
People’s Choice Innovation Leader of the Year
Ilya Bodner (Bold Penguin)
“To be forward thinking and become better innovators insurers will need to look at both types of outcomes, understand their causes and improve their models,” said judge Celia Clinciu. “It’s great to acknowledge talent, visionary management and great projects focused on innovation through this edition of the awards because in the end innovation is a key driver of the industry and has to be promoted and rewarded.”
